Glass Bending
Custom Shapes Through Controlled Thermal Forming
Through controlled heating, glass can be permanently shaped into curved and three-dimensional forms. This allows for the creation of components where flat glass cannot be used due to design, function, or construction requirements.
The geometries that can be achieved depend primarily on the type of glass, material thickness, dimensions, and desired bending radius. The forming process is therefore tailored individually to the material and component.
During the bending process, the glass is heated in a controlled manner to a temperature suitable for the specific material and shaped into the desired geometry. A carefully coordinated heating and cooling process gives the component its permanent curved shape.
In addition to simple radii, various shapes can be achieved depending on the material and component geometry. It is crucial to verify the feasibility of the desired design in terms of material and process suitability before production begins. In addition to the radius, dimensions, material thickness, and the required dimensional accuracy also play a role.
Schröder Spezialglas manufactures curved glass according to drawings and technical specifications. Thermal forming can be combined with additional processing steps so that contours, edges, surfaces, and shape can be tailored to the intended application.
