Glass wafers
Precision Glass Substrates for Demanding Applications
Glass wafers serve as substrates and functional components in technical applications that require thin material thicknesses, precise geometries, and high surface quality. Depending on the application, different types of technical glass with specifically selected material properties are used.
It is not only the diameter and material thickness that are crucial here. Flatness, edge quality, thermal behavior, and optical properties must also be tailored to the requirements of the subsequent process or component.
Schröder Spezialglas manufactures glass wafers in various dimensions and thicknesses according to customer specifications. In addition to standard round wafers, the company can produce custom contours, drill holes, cutouts, and other geometric modifications. The specific design depends on the material and technical specifications.
Various raw materials are available for glass wafers. Depending on the application , borosilicate glass, thin glass, or quartz glass can be used, for example. Differences in thermal expansion, chemical resistance, and optical properties allow for a targeted selection for each specific application.
Using CNC and laser machining, as well as surface treatment processes, the glass substrates can be adapted to meet various requirements. Schröder uses these methods to manufacture custom glass wafers, ranging from prototypes to recurring production runs.
For decades, Schröder Spezialglas has been supporting customers in industry, research, and development in the implementation of technical glass solutions. From the initial idea through prototyping to mass production, we combine expertise in materials with modern manufacturing processes and documented quality procedures.
