Flat Polishing
High-quality, flat surfaces for sophisticated glass components
Flat polishing is used for the precise machining of flat glass surfaces. During this process, surfaces are selectively smoothed and tailored to meet the required quality, flatness, and function of the respective component.
This process is used in particular where a high-quality surface is required for optical, technical, or metrological applications. The quality that can be achieved and is required depends on the material, geometry, and specifications.
In flat polishing, glass surfaces are specifically processed in several steps to achieve a uniform, smooth, and well-defined surface. Depending on the initial condition and requirements, grinding and polishing steps can be combined.
In addition to surface quality, the geometric quality of the surface can also play a decisive role. Requirements for flatness, parallelism, or material thickness are therefore taken into account as early as the planning stage of the process. The specific values that can be achieved depend on the material in question, the component dimensions, and the required specifications.
Schröder Spezialglas uses flat polishing for various types of technical glass and specialty materials. The process can be combined with additional machining steps, allowing the geometry, edges, and flat-polished surfaces to be manufactured in a coordinated manner.
